Hugo was born in United States between 1971-1980 and now lives in residence not given. Hugo's citizenship is of the United States and will tell people that he is from not given. Politically Hugo considers himself Other, though at times considers such labels as simplistic.
In commenting about Nicaragua, Hugo wrote the following:
My grandfather as a judge of the national court during the reign of both the elder and younger Somozas, though primarily the older, would stand against some of the laws that Somoza would attempt to have passed. These were laws that allowed him to do as he wished, including silencing any protest against his power and of course silencing democracy. When my grandfather would stand in his way, a soldier would be sent to my grandparents home. The soldier would meekly apologize to my grandmother and request my grandfather as it was his duty to put him in jail, in an attempt to reverse my grandfather\'s judgement.
